Roth's background:

Roth is a simple man. While he is part of the Guard, he has yet to participate in full on combat, aside from perhaps a few close calls, due to his specialization: Driving. Sometimes, supplies must be delivered in an area with horrible terrain, bad vision, or rounds of ammo zinging by. This is where Roth excels. He goes in, hands over the ammo, supplies, and rations, then begins the drive back out of the zone. Despite several years on this job (he entered roughly when he was 18) he has learned little about actual combat, taking las weapons because he is slightly prone to panic and he knows they are far more reliable. He's stayed a conscript for as long as he has for skillfully doing his job and carefully avoiding shooting and being shot at for a good seven years.


Now that a secure line of supply has been secured, his skills suddenly became less needed, so Roth needed a way to get out of the horrifying possibility of the noise and death of the battlefeild, or at least more than four or five enemies shooting at him at once.
It was then that he was approached by a contact his mother had made during her long years of work. A friend of a friend, who was rather close to Roth, mentioned that he could pull a few strings and have him meet up with an Inquisitor. Inquisitors, this friend reasoned, rooted out heresy and such, and thus rarely were found on the feared frontlines.
Roth did not dare think twice. He leapt upon this opportunity at once, glad to be out of the frying pan. As relieved as he was, he probably should have taken the battlefield over this new, strange job.
