Waterloo Minis announces its first Golden Emperor painting competition. This competition is open to anyone and covers Warhammer Fantasy, 40K, Flames of War, WarMachine and Hordes.
*The date is set for 3/28/09.
*There is a $5 entry fee for your first model and $1 for each model thereafter.
*Your entries can be models you already own as long as they were painted only by you.
Below are the guidelines for the Golden Emperor competition. Competition Guidelines
The competition will be held at the Waterloo Minis game store and entries will be judged on how well the model is painted and presented and how the model fits into the spirit of the associated game. For instance, a Space Ork from Warhammer 40,000 should have an appropriately ‘orky’ skin tone, not pink. Pink is not at all ‘orky’.
All entries must be a legally playable miniature for use in one the following war games: Flames of War, Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, Warmachine, or Hordes.
All entries must be from the appropriate manufacturer for the game. Entries for Flame of War must be Battlefront Miniatures, Warhammer 40,000 and Fantasy must be Citadel or Forge World Miniatures, and Warmachine and Hordes must be Privateer Press miniatures.
All models must be painted by the entrant; there will be no team or proxy entries. Model Basing
All entries must be mounted on a reasonably sized and playable base if applicable. Entries will not be accepted if mounted on a grossly inappropriate base. Models that do not normally require a base are still legal if mounted on an appropriately sized base.
For instance, a single Skaven slave is normally mounted on a 20mm square base. It would be reasonable to believe that a Skaven slave could be based on a 25mm square, 20mm round, a 40mm square or round base and still be used in a game. However, it is not reasonable to believe that a slave mounted on a chariot base would be useable in a game. Scenic Display Bases
Many units and other special show pieces are often mounted on scenic display bases. These bases are permitted as long as the model(s) can be removed from the base. Remember, this competition is for playable war game miniatures. To that end, models entered must still be playable and individually mounted on a reasonably sized base. The entry will not be allowed if the model(s) cannot be removed.
While the judges may think a scenic display base is pretty, they will not consider it when judging the painting quality of a miniature. Judging and Decisions
All judge decisions and rulings are final. The judges are accomplished miniature painters who have participated in many painting competitions and are reasonably qualified to impartially judge the competition based on painting merit.
Judges reserve the right to handle any model or remove it from a scenic display base that is entered into the competition. Neither the judges individually nor Waterloo Minis and it’s owners will be held liable for any damage or breakage to any models as a result of being handled while judging.
Judges may move a model into another category if they see fit.
Do not complain to a judge, or anyone else for that matter, if you do not place as high as you think you should in this competition, as it will not change anything.Registration and Recovery
All entries must be registered in person at Waterloo Minis no later than 1:00pm the day of the competition. Registration will open one week prior to the competition so entrants have seven full days to register a piece.
An entrant may enter as many categories as they wish, but no more than one model per category. Each model will be assigned a registration number. The entrant will receive a registration card noting each model entered with the category and associated registration number. The model(s) will be left at Waterloo Minis for the duration of the competition. The entrant may recover the model(s) any time after the judging is over. You must present the registration card at pickup to recover your models. No card, no models.
Waterloo Minis is in no way responsible for the well-being of your models. By participating in this competition you acknowledge that harm to your models may occur and you are willing to accept that risk. Competition Categories
