It's time once again for Battle Hymn, a small gaming convention taking
place on Saturday, February 28, 2009 here in Richmond, Virginia! The
International Plastic Modelers Society (IPMS) Richmond chapter and the
Armor Modeling & Preservation Society, Central Virginia (AMPS) are
holding their annual model show and contest, The Old Dominion Open
2009 at the Richmond International Raceway complex. These two
organizations enjoyed our company so much last year, they've invited
us back to put on another gaming show in their enormous
We have our own area for gaming and a number of tables and chairs.
It's a great spot, between the vendors area and the Make n' Take model
building area for beginners. The folks responsible for the convention
will make sure any gaming-related vendors will be closest to us for
maximum visibility and traffic.
Our gaming group has several games planned for the event, but we need
more folks willing to put on some games. Any type of miniatures game
is welcome, whether historical, science fiction or fantasy, including
tactical board games such as Memoir '44 or Conflict of Heroes. It must
be remembered that the general public and many non-gamers will be
attending, so introductory games would be appreciated.
Based on the Old Dominion Open contest and judging schedule, the time
available for the gaming tables has been divided into two 3 hour
slots, with a break in between, as follows:
0930 - 1230 slot one
1300 - 1600 slot two
1630 gaming raffle drawing
The show opens at 0900 and the model show awards ceremony begins at
1645, so we have uninterrupted time in between. If anyone would like
to use two slots for a longer game, it can be arranged.
Besides our gaming and small gaming-related raffle, convention events
include a gigantic model show, several actual armored vehicles on
display (including hopefully a T-34), the Make n' Take program, an
extensive model raffle, several guest speakers, and hundreds of feet
Admission is $5 per adult, $2 per child under 18. Vendors tables are
