White Dwarf is back!

White Dwarf #349

When I opened this months White Dwarf magazine, I felt like I was in a time warp. A quick perusal showed me home brewed Ork cities of death rules, Ork tactics, a How to article about building a Lizardman Ancient Portal from foam core and bits, a How to on painting faces, I thought I was back in the 90′s. When WD had real content and wasn’t just a flyer of new releases. I’ve been noticing a nice revival trend for the last few issues though, I guess since Mark Latham, started putting his name in the mag as editor. I’ve been wary though, and watching carefully, but I believe with WD #349, that it’s a done deal, things have definitely changed for the better. Mr. Latham and the whole WD crew, good show, we the great unwashed gamer masses salute you, for once again delivering a quality product and raising the standards of bathroom reading materials world wide.

So go out and pick up a copy of White Dwarf #349. It may not sell you on a years subscription, but it’ll definitely bring a smile to your face. Especially if you play orks or lizardmen.

Stony Point Games Workshop final hours.

games-workshop-fat1

Well as far as I know, tomorrow is the last day of Games Workshop Stony Point. A sad day indeed. So I hope everyone can stop in and see Don (Waaagh da orks!) and Shaun (who I’ve only just met) off to parts unknown, aka the death world of NOVA. Thanks guys you ran a pretty tight ship there, we enjoyed a hell of a lot of gaming and contests and raffles and launch parties and just serious fun. Don’t let me forget Mark (who gave me a free whitedwarf and boss pole on my first visit, securing a friend for life.) and Phil (you can keep that Kal Jericho comic). We bid you farewell and we hope to see you back here sooner than later.

I’ll definitely be stopping in for a last hurrah or maybe just a box of the new plastic nobz.

Avatars of War: Lord of Chaos released.

aow16_blister_bha.

Avatars of War produces some of the industries best minis. They also constantly raise the bar with each new release it seems. Sculpted by master modeler Felix Paniagua, this multi-part Lord of Chaos is really an amazing model, with lots of options, from screaming demon axes and possessed swords to multi-eyed devil heads. You can order your own model with any of several custom weapons and head options.

You can see all the options here. Just scroll down and you can have fun trying out all the different options.

These minis can be used in Avatars of War’s own Arena Death Match game, or can be used in more well known games as center piece Heros and Champions for your larger armies. You’ll see that they all fit quite nicely into other systems.

Radio Controlled LandRaider

I wanted to post this back in November 2008 when I found it, but it took me a while to figure out how to embed videos, basically I had to ask Matt.

Thanks Matt.

I know it’s been around for a while but this thing is fantastic and just shows how far imagination and hard work can take you. Salute!

Also the making of this beast.

Arrrggghhh! Ron & Bones

Tale of War has released a new miniature pirate game. Their sculpts are fantastic, combining fine details with beautiful lines to capture a robust haul of movement and character. Making these very unique pirates look and feel the part. This game has been out since last year but seeing as how it’s from Europe and I’m not the most aggressive news reporter, you see it here now.

From Tales of War,

“Ron&Bones is a game of skirmishes between pirates of all kinds, you will be able to sabotage, to approach, to rescue captured maidens, to seduce, to intoxicate your crew, to bribe, to insult, to destroy galleons … and definitively, to create a crew that is the fear of the great blue. And it is that, as every people know, the life of a pirate is the best life…”

…and who doesn’t love pirates, anyhow? Ron and Bones, has a dedicated web site here but as of this post I can’t seem to get it to load.

[EDIT] I was using Firefox, try using IE. Then it works just fine.

Ron and Bones at Tales of War, check out all the other amazing ToW minis, too.
