It is here! Warhammer 40k 5th ed. Rules

Today is the big day. Full release of the new 5th ed. Warhammer 40k from Games Workshop. I had a preorder for the limited edition Gamers Edition set. I finally picked it up last night at Midnight at our local GW store. They had a big 5th ed. rules, Apocalypse game at the shop and it was a good time. I was just happy being able to field my Big Mek Stompa for the first time this year. As with most GW store Apocalypse games and Mega Battles I’ve played in you can never be to sure who won or lost but I know I had a good time blasting everyone with my Deth Kannon and launching unlimited range Supa Rokkits across about 6′ of table into Jenkins’ Reaver Titan.

The rules changes seem minimal to me, mostly just streamlining of bulkier and more confusing rules from 4th ed. that slowed down play and keep your head buried in the rules book an entire game. It is a nice looking book, but it’s hard to get to excited about a book I already own basically three other copies of. There is some new art but not much, most of the images are reused from other publications. I really miss the big two page black and white plates in the front of the 4th Edition. If you are a first time buyer of a 40k rule book you should be very satisfied. There is a large section explaining the dark galaxy and it’s ever warring inhabitants and lots of campaign and battle ideas.

From a glance this new book looks like a mildly shiny new rehash of all the decades old Warhammer 40k fare, but only time and a few good games will tell me how it works out as a viable and fun to play rules system. Hopefully I’ll have one or two battle reports to put up here by the end of the month. If anyone wants to get in on that action, and catch a face fulla choppa, you know where to find me.

Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer of Nurgle

I’m a giant fan boy for the new line of Nurgle themed resin conversion kits Forge World has put out this year. Kits which allow you to pimp out a box of Games Workshop Chaos Space Marines or CSM terminators in all sorts of rotten Papa Nurgle style. So when I saw this newly released Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer of Nurgle, my hand went immediately to my wallet. Although this is an affliction common to 40k gamers (check out our forums). This full model in resin is all sorts of nasty with corroded armor, scabbed and bloated flesh and a sagging disease pocked gut. Filthy Nurglings poke out of nooks and crannies and the whole model oozes foulness in a way only Nurgle can.

Rackham Confrontation: Creatures of Dirz

New Release from Rackham a source book for the Dirz, army of the Scorpion.I haven’t played this game but I love the look of the minis and this book right here makes me really want to check it out.

“Break the code to make the power of creation yours.”

Maldegen Dirz

At the heart of the Syharhalna, a people has dedicated its existence to studying Darkness, according to the precepts of Maldegen Dirz. These scientists use technomancy, a path that combines magic and alchemy, in order to create monsters.

The creatures of Dirz serve the Syharhalna, helping the technomancers impose their vision of the world on Creation. Thanks to these creatures the Scorpion keeps its deadly sting of Darkness pointed at its enemies.

Burning in fire and drowning in blood, Aarklash will soon witness the dawning of a new era: the alchemical age.

The Army Book: Creatures of Dirz is a supplement for Confrontation: the Age of the Rag’narok.

Galeforce Nine: Multi Template.

Makers of fine miniatures wargaming aids, Gale Force Nine has realesed a great new all in one template for games such as Games Workshops, Warhammer 40k. Having used some of their products in past games I can vouch for their quality of production and their cool visual presence on the table, but I’m not sure if having all three templates in one is such a great thing. It’s hard enough to jab a regular flamer template into a ruined Hospital full of pinned Imperial Guardsmen as it is. But this thing is blaze orange and looks sweet. I think I’ll just wait till Jenkins gets one and then I’ll be back with a review of how it works on the table.
