Battle Hymn 2010: Richmond’s Gaming Con is coming.

Posted on March 8, 2010 - Comments - News!

Battle Hymn is a good time. The kind of good time where you don’t want to go home at the end of the day. Scott Craig and company, do a great job organizing this convention and this years event should be the best one yet. Goblin Mini-mart’s Commander Krieg, myself, and the rest of our crew will be there running a big narrative game of Apocalypse 40k, which I will be posting more about as it develops.

If you’re in Richmond, VA, or feel like taking a drive, come check it out.

Get all the info at their myspace site.

I hope to see you there.

Dave Taylor’s Blood Pact Tattoo Contest: Winner Announced.

Posted on March 7, 2010 - Comments - Contests, News!

When world famous modeler Dave Taylor’s blog following reached 500 members, Dave decided he needed a new tattoo to commemorate the event. So he held an online contest with sweet prizes. He received a ton of incredible entries and after much deliberation I’m sure, today he announced the winner. Congratulations Robert on your win. It is an amazing design, which conjures up all sorts of sinister blood pact imagery in my mind. I love it. You can see the winners announcement here.

Here are the designs I submitted for consideration.

I wanted to get a carved into the flesh look while keeping a simple black line tattoo style, I’m not sure if it worked. But I had fun doing it and really enjoyed the contest. Thanks Dave. Maybe this will end up on one of my renegades banners some day.

Killa Kans! Thanks Barter Bucket.

Posted on March 6, 2010 - Comments - Modeling

I like to run Killa Kans in my army. They serve me well in almost every game. They are like a stompy, choppy, running wall of armor. They scare people and make them do rash things. I love my Kans. I’ve had six for a long while. Then I was gifted a seventh. Odd man out it stayed in the blister for a year, until I recently made a haphazard click on the Barter Bucket and saw an ad for Dreds and Kans, lots of them. Since the new plastic Kans are about to go on sale, I know the old metal guys will be getting harder to come by. So I bought two more to finish my third squad. I have one of each weapon type per squad. I like the versatility. I don’t get to use my Skorchas as much as I would like, but when I do… Waaagh! It’s good times.

Here they are after a bit of modeling, remodeling, and some simple bits converting. Some of the bits were missing from the kits so I fabricated some hatch levers, valve handles, and extraneous engine gubbins.

Big Shoota Kan.

Rokkit Kan.

Skorcha Kan.

The whole mob, looking fer trouble, or the paint grots, or both.

I primed them today. So I just need to get them painted up and off to da Waaagh!

Project Catalog: Focus on the prize.

Posted on March 2, 2010 - Comments - Modeling

I’ve mentioned before my tendency to constantly start new projects without finishing the previous ones. Right now, I find myself under a particularly large heap of unfinished models and terrain pieces. So I’ve decided to make a list of all those projects here in hopes of being able to work through it and clean up my work space of unfinished business. I’ve also decided to take notes when I have a great idea. Instead of just diving into a building a new project when I think of it; I’ll take notes and let the idea simmer and cook down into a refined form, until I can get to it proper. This list does not include models still in the box or on the sprue, only projects now in progress.

Let’s begin.

Categories: Orks, Chaos Renegades, Terrain and Mordheim.

Orks-

1. Painting Battle Wagon.
2. Painting Stompa A.
3. Building and painting Stompa B.
4. Building and painting kustom weird boy.
5. Mega Armored Warboss Ghazghkull conversion.
6. Painting Ork Trukk conversion.
7. Building and painting Looted Wagon.
8. Paint Nobs mob.
9. Paint numerous boyz.
10. Paint two Mega Nobz.
11. Build and paint last Killa Kan mob. Thanks, The Barter Bucket!
12. Build and paint Biker Mob.
13. Paint Zap guns and crews and build and paint (1) crew.
14. Build and paint Ork Objective markers.
15. Building and painting Ork buggies and Trakks.

Well I should probably just quit right there. That list is a bit daunting.

Chaos Renegades-

1. Paint Chaos Dreadnought conversion.
2. Paint and build Chaos Renegade Guardsmen.
3. Paint Mutants.
4. Paint Renegade Ogryn.
5. Paint Plague Marines.
6. Paint Defiler.
7. Paint Rhino.
8. Paint Daemon Prince.
9. Paint DIY Great Unclean One.
10. Build and Paint Chaos Lord.
11. Chaos Sorcerer of Nurgle.

I think that’s it for the Chaos…

Terrain-

1. Build and paint Mad Dok Morkenstiens Kastle.
2. Build and paint Great Basilica.
3. Paint Plasma Generators.
4. Paint Bombarded Park.
5. Paint Ruined Mechanicus temple.
6. Paint Machine Cut Imperial Ruins.

Mordheim-

1. Build and paint Possessed.
2. Build and paint Magus.
3. Build and paint numerous Henchmen.

Well there ya go. Looks like that’s the end of the list…wooh! Guess I better get to work then. It is nice to have it all organized in front of me. Now, if I can stick to the plan I can finish all this stuff by 2025, and start on the models I have in blisters and boxes.

If anyone would like to make requests on what I should finish first drop me a comment.

Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day.

Orks: Looted Wagons Ho!

Posted on February 19, 2010 - Comments - Modeling

I got in a bit of detailing on ye olde looted wagon. I seem to be suffering from a severe case of project creep. I continuously start new projects before finishing the last. I think I’m up to about 30 or so, right now. So getting back to a previous build is good news.

I’ve added some rivets, some bracing on the roof, some more rivets. I’m building some grot sponsons but, I think I need a huge plow/ram on the front. I also think I need to add a roof hatch with gunner. The back needs something. I’m just not sure what right now.

What do you think?

I did the greenstuff work on the Possessed. It was easier than I thought. I filled in the forearm on the claw arm and fixed the cuff of the leather wrist band on the hand arm. I even put an extra wart onto the claw arm to tie in with the rest of the model. I want to do more now, but I’m not sure which direction to head. I’ve entertained thoughts of doing a giant maw on his stomach, or adding some mutant horns to his head. Or cutting the head off entirely and replacing it with a plastic spawn head. I need to be patient and think on all this a while more.

Comments are appreciated.

Terrain: Machine cut ruins kits.

mdfruinspainted
Even though the weather here is crap, during a brief window of opportunity yesterday, I got outside and put some paint on the assembled ruins kits.

mdfruinscloseup
They are looking good. They also have a nice weight to them and are super sturdy, so they won’t fall over easily and will with stand years of gaming. The individual kits can also be arranged to form larger buildings, for intense city fighting or apocalyptic scale battles.

mdfruinspaintedbuilding
Our packages come in three sizes: small, medium and large ruins. Each will contain a selection of machine cut parts: walls, floors, buttresses, and perhaps some undisclosed detailing bits. All the modeler has to do is glue them together and paint them up. Our designs make this simple and quick. You could easily build and paint a cities worth in a day.

mdfruinsorks3
The whole point of this product is to allow a wargamer to acquire a table’s worth of high quality terrain quickly and affordable way.

mdfruinsorks
These are prototypes as we are refining our designs, so any comments at this stage will be a great help.

STOMP! SMASH! KILL!

m890294a_99120103023_orkdeffdread1_873x627

I’ve been waiting for this release for a long while. I haven’t settled my opinion on these new models yet, I need to let it sink in a bit. But my initial reaction is good.

Killa kans

I think, I really like the Kans. Too bad I already have a ton of them. Three more won’t hurt right?

We can’t stop here. This is bat country!

orksonmars

I submitted a silly picture of my ork trukk to Bell of Lost Souls pic of the day, and they posted it. The trolls didn’t like it, but they hate everything, and can’t appreciate art. I think it’s pretty funny and some of the captions people came up with are priceless. So I’m posting it’s sister pic here. Because it’s even funnier when there’s two. See Mom, I didn’t waste all my time at art school.

Enjoy.

Mordheim! The beginning of a possessed warband.

Posted on February 6, 2010 - Comments Off - Modeling

Last month, I bought a copy of Mordheim on Ebay. I’ve always wanted to play it, or at least build a warband for it. So I got my new book in the mail, worked out a possessed warband list and then I headed right over to Hoard o’ Bits and bought a bunch of stuff as you can see.

mordheim-bits

I got flagellants bits, chaos spawn bits, beast man bits, and a huge honking Reaper Miniatures Ogre. That is a big step for me. I haven’t bought anything but GW minis since the 80’s. I feel odd, like I’m crossing a line using a non-GW mini in a GW game. I know it’s all in my head, but it feels very strange. Doesn’t matter though because I love those Reaper minis and this Ogre is perfect as you can see below.

possessed-ideas

Since the possessed is going to be the real center piece of the gang I’ve started on him first. The conversion isn’t to drastic, just some hand swaps and a little greenstuff work to hold it together.

possessed

I’m going to go back and reread Ron’s green stuffing tutorials on From The Warp, since I have very little experience with it.

When the big fella is done I’ll dive into this pile of bits and have a real time of it. I’d also like to thank Tom’s Boring Mordheim Blog for tons idea and inspiration.

Let me know what you think so far. Here’s my working warband list.
